Answers to the questions people actually ask, about Pro, importing, scores and your data. If none of them fits, email us. There’s a small studio behind Xoreader, and a person reads every message.
Email support
Write in English, Portuguese or Spanish. We reply as quickly as a small studio can, usually within a few working days.
What to include
- your iPhone model and iOS version (for example, iPhone 15, iOS 26);
- the Xoreader version, from Settings → About Xoreader;
- what you tapped, what you expected, and what happened instead. A screenshot helps a lot.
Please don’t send passwords or payment details. For a purchase question, the date and plan are enough.
Purchases and Pro
I bought Pro, but the app still says Free
Tap Restore purchases on the Pro screen or in Settings, while signed in to the Apple Account you bought with and connected to the internet. Xoreader checks your purchase with the App Store rather than an account of its own, so restoring is the fix after a reinstall, on a new iPhone, or when a purchase finished while you were offline. If Apple is still confirming a payment, Pro unlocks by itself once it’s approved.
How do I cancel?
In the iPhone Settings app, go to your name → Subscriptions → Xoreader → Cancel Subscription, or use Apple’s subscriptions page. Inside Xoreader, Settings → Subscription takes you to the same place. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel. Pro normally stays active until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
Can I get a refund?
Apple handles App Store refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Can I switch between monthly and yearly?
Yes. Both plans are in the same subscription group, so Apple treats a switch as an upgrade or downgrade, and you won’t pay for both. Manage it in your Apple subscriptions.
Is there a free trial or a lifetime plan?
No. The free plan is permanent, and Pro is US$3.99 a month or US$34.99 a year on the US App Store, with your local price shown before you buy.
Does Pro work offline?
Yes. Xoreader remembers your Pro status and keeps it active for up to 14 days without a connection. After that, connect once so it can check again.
Adding books and links
What can I add?
EPUB (versions 2 and 3) and TXT files, pasted text, web articles, blog posts and news pages, and YouTube videos that have captions. In the Library, tap Add reading and choose a file, a link or pasted text, or share a file or link to Xoreader from another app with the share sheet. Once something is added, it reads offline.
It says the file is copy-protected
Books with digital rights management (DRM) can’t be opened, and Xoreader won’t try to get around the protection. Plain EPUB files you own will work.
I can’t add a third book
The free plan holds two readings at a time. Remove one from the Library to make room, or upgrade to Pro for unlimited books.
An article came in wrong, or not at all
Some sites build their pages with scripts, block downloads, or wrap the text in a lot of other content, so Xoreader can’t always find the article. Pages larger than 5 MB are refused. If a link doesn’t work, copy the article text and use Paste text instead.
The video says it has no captions
Xoreader imports existing captions, preferring ones in your language. It doesn’t transcribe audio, so a video without captions can’t be imported.
Reading modes and pace
Open the reader settings from the icon at the top of the Reader to change the mode, pace, theme, font and font size.
- Guided Highlight (the default) moves a soft highlight through the page at your pace. Tap a word to move the highlight there.
- RSVP shows one word at a time. Long-press, swipe left or tap the rewind button to jump back ten words.
- Chunk RSVP (Pro) shows two to four words at a time.
- Classic is the plain page, with no pacing.
Why does the highlight speed up and slow down?
Xoreader lingers a little on long words and at commas and the ends of sentences, then moves slightly faster elsewhere, so the average matches the pace you set. The number you see is the pace you actually get.
Games, scores and records
My fast read didn’t count as a record
A reading speed only becomes a personal best when comprehension on the same read is 70% or higher. Faster reads with lower comprehension are still saved in your history, just not celebrated. Try the same kind of read a notch slower.
What’s “effective rate”?
It’s your pace multiplied by your comprehension, a blunt secondary measure shown beside the two real numbers, never instead of them.
Why didn’t a round count?
If you leave the app in the middle of a round, it’s kept in your history but doesn’t count toward personal bests or trend charts. Preview rounds of Pro games on the free plan aren’t saved.
When do the free daily allowances come back?
At the start of your next local calendar day. Only completed rounds use the allowance, and the sorting games have no limit.
Missions, streaks and reminders
What keeps a streak going?
Finishing any one full round from Play or a Gym mission. A round completed between midnight and 4 a.m. can count for the day before if that day wasn’t already counted.
What are streak freezes?
They cover a missed day automatically; there’s nothing to tap. The free plan holds up to two and adds one a month. Pro holds up to five and adds two a month. If a streak does end, your best streak stays on your profile.
Why did my XP slow down?
Daily XP is capped on purpose at 600. Anything above that still counts, at a quarter of the rate, and the full rate returns tomorrow.
How do reminders work?
Reminders are off until you turn them on in Settings → Notifications. You’ll get at most one a day, at the time you choose. If you turn them off, Xoreader never turns them back on by itself.
Comfort and safety
Gentle mode
Gentle mode caps rapid reading at 500 words per minute, uses soft fades and lowers visual contrast. It turns on automatically when your iPhone’s Reduce Motion setting is on, and you can switch it in Settings → Comfort and motion. It’s free on every plan.
Flashing content
Some games flash text or shapes quickly, so Xoreader shows a health notice before any of them can start. If you have photosensitive epilepsy or are prone to migraines, please check with a doctor before using them, use Gentle mode, and stop if you feel unwell. The notice is always available in Settings → Visual safety.
Larger text and VoiceOver
Xoreader follows your iPhone’s text size, up to twice the default size. With VoiceOver, the Reader works fully in Classic mode, and Timed Reading, the Repeated Reading Ladder and Word Bank are good choices. Games that depend on timing and visual search don’t work well with a screen reader, and the app says so on those games.
Sound and haptics
Sound is off by default. Both can be switched in Settings → Comfort and motion.
Your data
Where is my data?
On your iPhone, in Xoreader’s private storage. There’s no Xoreader account or cloud copy. The Privacy Policy has the details.
Starting over
Settings → Reset progress clears reading and game history, XP, streaks, medals and your starting measurement, after two confirmations. It keeps your books and preferences. To remove a book, delete it from the Library.
Exporting
With Pro, Settings → Export progress saves your history as JSON and CSV files through the share sheet.
Getting a new iPhone
Xoreader doesn’t sync between devices. If your iPhone backup includes Xoreader, restoring the backup may bring your library and progress with it. Pro comes back with Restore purchases on any iPhone signed in to the same Apple Account.
For website owners
If you see this user agent in your logs, a Xoreader user asked to import one of your pages to read:

It isn’t a crawler. Each request starts because a person pasted or shared that link. The app downloads that single page’s HTML, up to 5 MB, from the person’s iPhone, extracts the readable text on the device and keeps it only in their private library. It doesn’t follow links, run scripts, load images or send cookies, and nothing is republished or sent to us.
If you’d rather your pages weren’t imported, you can refuse requests with that user agent, and the person will see that the page couldn’t be imported. Questions are welcome at [email protected].
Known limits in this version
- iPhone first. Xoreader is designed for iPhone. It isn’t optimized for iPad yet, and an Android version is planned as a separate release.
- No account and no sync. Your library and progress stay on one device. That’s a deliberate privacy trade-off.
- EPUB, TXT, links and captions only. PDF, MOBI and AZW aren’t supported, and neither are copy-protected books.
- No read-aloud yet. There’s no text-to-speech in this version.
- No leaderboards. Your personal bests are compared only with you.
- Three languages. The app, its passages and its word games are in English, Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish.
