Terms of Use

1 · The agreement

These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and AxoLottaLove (“we”, “us”), the maker of the Xoreader app and this website. By downloading, opening or using Xoreader you accept them. If you don’t accept them, please don’t use the app.

They apply alongside our Privacy Policy and the terms of the store you got Xoreader from. For a download from Apple’s App Store, Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”) is the licence agreement, and these Terms supplement it for Xoreader’s features, content and subscriptions. If the two conflict on a licence term, the Standard EULA controls.

If you’re not old enough to enter into a contract where you live, a parent or legal guardian must review and accept these Terms for you, and you need the store account holder’s permission before buying anything.

2 · Your licence

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to install and use Xoreader for your own reading and practice, on Apple devices you own or control, as allowed by the App Store’s usage rules.

You may not sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the app; copy or extract its bundled passages, questions, word lists or phrase banks as a dataset, except where an open licence named in the app allows it; reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except where that restriction isn’t allowed by law; remove or obscure licence or attribution notices; or work around the limits of the free plan or the purchase checks.

The Xoreader name and mark, the AxoLottaLove name and the app’s original content belong to us. This licence doesn’t give you any rights in them.

3 · What the free app includes

Xoreader is free to download and free to use for as long as you like. The free plan includes:

• up to two books or texts in your library at a time;
• Guided Highlight and Classic reading, and RSVP up to 400 words per minute;
• Timed Reading and Scan Hunt once per local calendar day, Word Sprint in 30-second rounds, and 10 Word Bank cards per day;
• Schulte Table in its classic style, from 3 × 3 to 5 × 5;
• Color Sort and Category Sort without limits;
• one complete preview round of each other game, whose result isn’t saved;
• daily missions, XP, ranks, streaks and every medal, and your last 14 days of history.

Evidence tags, “What the science says”, Gentle mode and every accessibility setting are free on every plan and will never be put behind a paywall.

Free-plan limits are enforced on your iPhone and may change in future versions. A change never removes a feature you’ve already paid for during a paid subscription period.

4 · Xoreader Pro and billing

What you get

Xoreader Pro adds breadth: unlimited books; all twelve research games in full with their results saved; every Schulte style and size; Chunk RSVP and RSVP up to 1,200 words per minute; comprehension checks at the end of chapters; Word Bank cards from your own books; the Paper and Ink themes and more reading fonts; full adaptive difficulty and a third daily mission; and your full history, per-book stats and data export. Pro never sells progress: it doesn’t grant XP, ranks, streak repairs or better scores.

Plans and prices

Both plans unlock exactly the same features. There’s no free trial, introductory offer or lifetime purchase. The price in your currency, including any tax, is shown by the App Store and on the purchase screen before you confirm. Prices can differ by country and may change; Apple notifies you of a price change for an existing subscription and asks for your consent where its rules require it.

How billing works

• Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
• Your subscription renews automatically for the same length unless it’s cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• Your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends.
• You can manage and cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings after purchase.
• Pro unlocks only once Apple confirms the payment. If a payment fails or is refunded, Pro access ends.
• The monthly and yearly plans are in the same subscription group, so switching between them is handled by Apple as an upgrade or downgrade rather than a second subscription.
• Apple processes all payments. We never receive your full payment details, such as your card number.

5 · Cancelling and refunds

You can cancel whenever you like. Deleting Xoreader doesn’t cancel a subscription.

Cancelling stops the next renewal. Pro normally stays active until the end of the period you’ve already paid for, and cancelling doesn’t by itself create a partial refund.

App Store purchases are refunded by Apple. To ask for one, use reportaproblem.apple.com; Apple decides refund requests under its own rules.

Nothing in these Terms limits a cancellation, withdrawal or refund right you have under the consumer law where you live.

6 · Books and texts you bring in

Xoreader lets you import EPUB and TXT files, paste text, and import web articles and YouTube captions. That material stays yours and is stored privately on your iPhone. Xoreader doesn’t upload it, re-host it or use it to train any model. Importing a link makes your iPhone contact the source website, as described in the Privacy Policy.

You’re responsible for what you import. By importing something, you confirm that you own it, that it’s in the public domain or openly licensed, or that you otherwise have the right to copy it to your device for your own reading. Please don’t use Xoreader to build or share a library of infringing material.

Xoreader doesn’t open copy-protected (DRM) books and doesn’t try to get around copy protection. Xoreader has no sync or backup service, so we can’t restore your library. If you delete the app without a usable device backup, your imports are gone.

7 · Scores, evidence and health

Xoreader is a reading and education tool. It doesn’t promise any particular improvement in reading speed, comprehension or anything else.

Scores describe how you did in that activity. How much a game carries over to everyday reading varies, and the evidence tag on each game (Well-supported, Promising or Traditional) and the “What the science says” screen show what the research does and doesn’t support. The two sorting games are just for fun and make no claim at all.

Not medical advice. Xoreader isn’t a medical device or a treatment, and it isn’t designed to diagnose, treat or prevent any condition, including dyslexia, ADHD or vision problems.

Flashing content. Some games show text or shapes that change quickly. If you have photosensitive epilepsy or are prone to migraines, please check with a doctor before using them, use Gentle mode, and stop if you feel unwell.

8 · Acceptable use

Please don’t use Xoreader to break the law or infringe anyone’s rights; import material you’re not allowed to use; overload, scrape or bulk-download websites (the importer is for a page you want to read); or interfere with, probe or bypass the purchase checks.

9 · Our content and open licences

Xoreader’s bundled reading passages, comprehension questions, phrase banks and interface text are original and belong to us. Its frequency word lists and definitions are adapted from openly licensed sources, including FrequencyWords, NGSL, NAWL and Wiktionary, under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence. Its fonts are used under the SIL Open Font License.

Those licences, and the attribution notices in the app under Settings → About Xoreader, govern that material and survive these Terms. Openly licensed material may be reused only under its own licence, not under this one.

10 · Availability and changes

Reading and games work offline once content is in your library. Importing links, buying and restoring Pro, and checking your subscription need a connection, and the services involved may occasionally be unavailable.

We may update the app, add or remove features, and update these Terms. When we do, we’ll change the effective date above and give additional notice where a material change or the law requires it. If a change materially affects a subscription you’ve already paid for, we’ll explain it in the app or its release notes.

11 · Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Xoreader is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don’t warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will change how fast or how well you read.

Some places don’t allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you, and nothing here affects consumer rights that can’t be waived where you live.

12 · Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits or lost progress, arising from your use of Xoreader. Where a monetary cap is lawful, our total liability for any claim relating to Xoreader is limited to the total amount you paid for Xoreader.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can’t lawfully be excluded or limited.

Xoreader keeps no server copy of your library or progress. Keeping your iPhone backed up is up to you.

13 · Termination

You can end this agreement at any time by deleting Xoreader from your devices. Your licence ends automatically if you materially breach these Terms. Sections 6 to 12 and 15 survive termination. Ending the agreement doesn’t cancel a subscription by itself; cancel that with Apple, as described in section 5.

14 · Apple App Store terms

For Xoreader obtained from the App Store, Apple’s Standard EULA governs the app licence, and Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions govern your Apple Account and purchases. These Terms supplement those agreements and don’t replace them. AxoLottaLove, not Apple, is responsible for Xoreader, its content, and the support described on our support page.

15 · Applicable law and general terms

The law and courts that apply are determined by applicable conflict-of-law and consumer-protection rules. If you’re a consumer, these Terms don’t take away the mandatory protections of the country where you live, or any right you have to bring proceedings there.

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Not enforcing a provision isn’t a waiver of it.
